Surti Locho is a famous street food from the city of Surat. It is a soft, steamed, spicy snack made mainly from gram flour (besan) and lentils, known for its loose, slightly messy textureāwhich is actually how it got its name.
In Gujarati, ālochoā means āa mistake or mess.ā
According to local stories, a cook in Surat once accidentally made a dish with the wrong batter consistency while preparing khaman. Instead of discarding it, he steamed it and served it with toppingsāand people loved it. The āmistakeā became a beloved snack.
